Project nameBenefit Autrey Mill Nature Center and Preserve
The deadline for this project has passed
LocationAutrey Mill Nature Center Johns Creek,Georgia 30022
Project Date and Time September 22, 2011

Project Budget $100. 00 will serve as the beginning point for buying a new reptile for the reptile room, along with necessary food and habitat materials. $300.00 will go towards the expansion of the Autrey Mill summer camps by supplying counselors with needed money for supplies. Because this is such a wide-spread and popular camp, new additions to the camp are always a must, including information on turtles, the ducks and other animals will help grow the knowledge already learned! The remainder of the money will be put towards beautification of the grounds and any outstanding costs Autrey Mill needs the donations for. The Summer Hour House, home to a display on the early history of the plantation is is constant need of up-keep. The gardens on the entrance way need to be replanted and spruced up for the upcoming season. My hopes are that the garden can look more appealing by adding new flowers and a hose for constant water access.
Ben Team and his staff are the forerunners to the success of Autrey Mill Nature Center. I leave a large chunk of the donation money up to his discretion to be used for potential sponsorship opportunities or up-keep of the grounds.

- The problem you want to help solve?
I'd like to keep people informed about conservation of the earth's precious resources. More often than not, people take advantage of the resources we have, not realizing how much of an impact it has on the environment.
Each year, for example, 68 million pounds of paper is produced in the United States. Only about 1/3 of that goes towards its proper needs. Now that's something that needs to be relayed to students. Secondly, the US emits 26 gigatons of CO2 emissions per year. Just learning and becoming educated on an issue such as this will motivate teens, youth, kids and adults to become more environmentally aware.
- Why is it important?
Autrey Mill Nature Center is a community based non-profit focused on educating citizens about the environment and the importance of preservation. Every summer, Autrey Mill hosts its annual summer camps, providing kids with the opportunity to participate in themed camps. For example, kids can engage in a reptile camp where they will learn about the various reptiles housed at the nature center, and interact by feeding and watching the behaviors of the reptiles. Along with the festivities of the summer camp, kids can participate in monthly "Heritage Days" to explore the nature preserve as it once was in the 1800s. This expands the knowledge kids have of early American history.
- Who will benefit?
Children from the metro Atlanta area and local schools. Autrey Mill Middle School is a prominent age group the nature center likes to welcome, but this does not forgo other students of high school and college level from volunteering!
- What will you be doing?
I will be raising money to go towards sustaining programs, such as enhancing their reptile program, summer camps, necessary food for the respective animals and operational funds. I hope to raise enough money for the nature center to "divide and conquer" any operational and outstanding costs Autrey Mill may be facing.
