- The problem you want to help solve?
This project, funded by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board, provides students and community volunteers with meaningful service learning opportunities that will inspire passion for volunteerism and civic duty. Your financial and time investment will help youth to develop leadership skills, provide hands-on responsibilities and foster team-building in the process of supporting a local community garden initiative. Adult role models and youth volunteers will work together, where they can learn from each other, share their perspectives and become united as a community.
- Why is it important?
Youth will be able to track their volunteer time, verify their civic contributions and earn points for working on these projects. These points can be "cashed in" for grants (funded through Toyota’s investment) for the charities they care about. Every dollar you invest in GivingPoint will be used to create a generation of caring, open-minded, hard working citizen philanthropists.
- Who will benefit?
GivingPoint fills many of the knowledge, opportunity, financial and legacy gaps that currently exist for under served youth populations across the United States. GivingPoint closes the "knowledge gap" by providing engaging on line education and interactive training modules for teens, which broadens their worldview and motivates them to solve critical societal problems. GivingPoint closes the "opportunity gap" by providing meaningful service-learning experiences that match teens' passions. We can partner with Toyota's Georgia-based employees and nonprofit partners to provide hands-on experiences that spark interest and actively engage them in service. GivingPoint closes the "financial gap" by allowing teens to earn points (through e-learning, volunteerism and fundraising) that can be cashed in for grants that are in-turn, donated to causes the students care about and serve. Teens can apply for up to $250 in micro-grants for every 500 points earned that are then directed to their favored charities. GivingPoint closes the "legacy gap" by offering teens innovative ways to reflect upon their experiences. GivingPoint's unique platform allows students to track and verify their volunteer time, while also creating their civic resumes, which can be personalized and downloaded for college applications and job interviews.
- What will you be doing?
From June 1 - 4th, we will be working with State Farm employees, community leaders and youth from the YMCA to install a garden fence and laying the foundation for an ADA accessible path. We will also be working with students to paint pots and plant herbs and vegetables.
