- The problem you want to help solve?
We want youth who go through the Earth Savers Club Program to be able to:
Solve local problems while having fun.
Develop as leaders who take initiative, solve problems, work as a team, and demonstrate their abilities through helping others.
Apply academic, social, and personal skills to the improvement of their community.
Grow as individuals, gain respect for peers, and increase civic participation.
Experience success no matter what their academic ability level.
Gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their community, and society.
Make decisions that have real, not hypothetical, results.
Cultivate responsibility for self and others.
Replace stereotypes with respect for others.
Begin to develop a lifelong commitment to public service and learning.
- Why is it important?
The National Science Foundation recognized in 2003 that, "In the coming decades, the public will more frequently be called upon to understand complex environmental issues, assess risk, evaluate proposed environmental plans and understand how individual decisions affect the environment.” Yet surprisingly, a large group of the 75 million youth in America today, is not adequately gaining the skills needed to solve this problem. Moreover, organizations continually target schools with messages of environmental responsibility, but engaging young people in being a part of the solution takes a unique twist from the everyday message.
- Who will benefit?
Everyone benefits-- the youth implementing the project, their teachers and administrators, and the community at-large.
- What will you be doing?
The Earth Savers Club supports youth-led environmental initiatives. Specifically, through GivingPoint we will focus on raising resources and mobilizing for our Georgian Earth Savers for Global Youth Service Day.
