The problem you want to help solve? Today our food travels thousands of miles to our local grocery store, creating a disconnect between local farmers, local food, and the local consumer. By teaching students about sustainability, local agriculture, and environmental stewardship, students may begin to close the gap.
Why is it important? The summer program at the garden is extremely important to keep the garden going during the summer months. As well as helping the garden, students will be helping their community by learning about sustainable agriculture, food production, environmental stewardship, and healthy living.
Who will benefit? The Alpharetta YMCA service week will benefit the students involved as well as the community. Students will experience the intrinsic benefits of helping their community and the environment, as well as beautifying the community.
What will you be doing? Students participating in the service week will aid in planting, harvesting, watering, etc. As well as working at the garden, students will learn about environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, food production, and healthy living.
