Project Budget
$3,000 will cover my travel expenses for this eleven-day excursion.
  • The problem you want to help solve?
I hope to provide further aid to the faltering Kojori Orphanage through Operation 5, a campaign that I started upon my return from the country last summer. Additionally, I hope that my team's service will further establish volunteerism among Georgian youth.
  • Why is it important?
Every year the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta sends teen volunteers to burgeoning YMCA programs abroad to act as philanthropic ambassadors. Despite great potential, volunteerism is still a relatively new concept in the Republic of Georgia, where both opportunities and desire to get involved are scarce. The relationship between our two YMCAs is mutually beneficial-- Atlanta teens gain a new passion for domestic service, and the Georgian teens gain new ideas on how to engage in their own communities.
  • Who will benefit?
Funding from Operation 5 will go directly into new English language programming, athletic infrastructure and clothing goods at the Kojori Orphanage to re-vitalize the lives of seventy-five children. Later in the excursion we will counsel with recovering refugees of the Russo-Georgian conflicts, and support the newly operational YMCA Camp Orange in Batumi on the Black Sea coast.
  • What are the goals of the project?
It would be a distinct honor to return to the country that had such a profound effect on my philanthropic development. I hope to lead the team back to the Kojori Orphanage to participate in a breaking ground ceremony signifying the start of field construction, and further engage with the remaining children. Additionally, I hope to build stronger bonds with my Georgian colleagues, learn more of the Kartuli language, and spread my passion for philanthropy overseas.
  • What do you hope to accomplish by the end of this project?
I would like to fully fund my campaign Operation 5 (a $10,000 goal), reconnect with my contacts in the Republic of Georgia, co-lead innovative service projects in the country, and encourage the continuation of this endeavor in future years.
  • What will you be doing?
I will act as the team's main GivingPoint liaison, as well as a cultural and linguistic educator. Once we touch down in the Republic of Georgia, I look forward to working with the Kojori orphans, and otherwise participating capacity requested of me.
