Last week, the Ashford Dunwoody YMCA Leaders Club kicked off our Partner With Youth campaign with call nights!
Every Monday and Tuesday our Leaders are split into two groups, each with a designated day, where from 6-8pm we will call all members of our branch to inform them of the incentives of donating to our campaign and who it will help.
Last year as a new Leader, I was nervous when I first began to call memebers, but this year I was a bit mor relaxed and comfortable. I was more prepared for the "no" and the "yes."
Even though, we've been told to be and sound optimistic about reaching our goals, which are harder for some in these economic times, I could not help but feel a little awkward about asking for donations when I know so many who need those donations.
Last Tuesday, I even found myself in two situations where the memebers I called told me that they were members on scholarship themselves, and I could do nothing but congradulate them and assure them that we were trying as hard as we could to raise the money that was helping them stay involved with the YMCA. One of the members even donated.
So I was surprised that at the end of the night, I ended up being the Leader who had raised that most money. $245!
Each Leader was given a goal they they must meet before the end of the PWY campging, I believe that may be in 6 or 7 weeks. My goal for PWY is to raise $600. That goal that I GAWKED at in the beginning now doesn't look as scary to me as it had before the call night. In the beginning, I simply hoped that I would able tocome close to the goal, but now I am confident that I will reach and possibly overcome it.
