My 2nd Journal entry: Tuesday July 6, 2010
OMG! Today has been the BEST day in Costa Rica yet! We went to the mall, danced all day, and learned more about each other. I spoke so much Spanish today and I want complimented on it! ;) Kathleen even shouted me out in the group meeting tonight.
This morning- It was so bright outside! Everyone woke up at 6 a.m. because we thought it was 7, but it really looked like it was 10 a.m. outside. Costa Rica doesn't have daylight savings time.
Breakfast- The breakfast was interesting. I think I put some guava that looked like jelly on my bread, but it tasted like carrots. And the orange juice was kind of weak, but I was finally successful with some instant oatmeal and toast with butter! The butter was amazing! I was also happy with the milk, it tasted like the milk back here at home.
With the Ticos- This morning I volunteered to give my morning devotion first. I was also up to discuss my discussion topic Stereotype with Pamela. All of the Ticos made powerpoints to present their presentations in English. We Americans had to present in Spanish! :) It didn't work out too well... so some presenters had to use a translator.
Dancing- Dancing was great! I threw down with the Ticos. I made a mix of songs on a CD especially for the trip and named it Costa Rican Mission CD. It included a mixture of popular American songs and songs in Spanish that I had learned before the trip. I also put both versions of Shakira's "Waka Waka" song for the World Cup on the CD. The Ticos loved it! We taught the Ticos how to jerk, lol and they taught us how to dance salsa and bachata. In the end we put on a sort of talent show.
The ticos are so fun! Tonight we had dinner at their YMCA called the ACJ. It was the BEST meal we've had in Costa Rica yet! And tomorrow we're going to the museums! But omg, are we TIRED! Whew!
