A New Light

Ever since I was a child, my parents raised me to be courteous and generous to others. To reinforce her own own teachings, I was constantly made to participate in many volunteer programsand concession stands growing up. Looking back when I was younger, I remember thinking to myself if I'm actually making a difference. Surely even if I wasn't there, the job still would have been finished right?I had this mindset until I volunteered through my church to take a trip to Alabama to construct homes for some of the elderly during the summer.  At that time, I was a rising junoir. I simply wanted to go just for the college credit and the fact that I would be able to get away from my parents an entire week. While I was there, I began to realize that I felt some sense of satisfaction in my work, despite my arms feeling like jelly due to the constant lifting of wood.  I even grew closer to my church community! It was until that time when I realized that I am making a difference in the world.

Volunteering is AWESOME!
Thanks so much for sharing!(:

Yes a very good post! I love it.I really don't vollunteer for my community service ours.I do it to make a difference in the world.Also see smiles on people faces.

Awesome! It's really cool how you can start off without an interest and gain one so quickly. I know how you feel, too. I'm a rising freshman and started off in volunteer work only because I was forced. But now, I'm building relationships with some truly outstanding people, and have gained so much knoweledge from my experiences.

When we help someone it helps us.! Nothing can replace that feeling you get inside when you know that you are making a difference in someones life.!Keep up the good work chris.!

I like the fact that you see what i see in life i am a Senior at Carver High School. I want to make the world a better place and by doing that we all have to come together and help each others. This is a great post i also help the elderly out at my mother's job. I enjoy it a lot because i get to help someone that really need help in life. Keep up the good work chris

Only something as special as volunteering could make someone "welcome" the pain. Great job

Thanks =]
I kinda typed this all in a rush =o

Good job Chris and btw you are still a rising junior :P and u used my pic for ur propic HAHAHAH

Wow! I had the same experience. Volunteering seems so meaningless, and then you do it, and you see the difference you make. Keep making a difference! What you do matters so much!

Great post! It's so amazing how helping others can help us in return. Keep up the great work! Sounds like you have an amazing family and group of friends behind you!
